Enjoy this tote bag pattern that is reminiscent of visiting a paint store and seeing the display wall of paint chips.

On my recent trip to QuiltCon, the modern quilt conference in Savannah, I was given a packet of eighty-four 2½ inch squares by Paintbrush Studio. It included squares of all of their solid fabrics. It was beautiful! I flipped through it many times before I decided what to do with it. I made a bag!

Of course, the bag only took 42 of the squares, so I have more to play with in the future. I love the bag pattern this chance encounter inspired.

Description

The Paint Chip tote bag pattern is all about expressing with colour. I love the bag pattern this chance encounter inspired. Of course, the bag can be made with any 2½ inch scraps you have in your collection. You can cut from a range of fabric or make it very scrappy and choose whatever comes to hand.

Skill Level: all skill levels, rotary cutting and basic sewing skills

Finished Size: 15 inches W x 16 inches H x 5 inches D  (380mm W x 406mm H x 125mm D)

Materials (provided by you):

  • Forty-two 2 ½ inch squares (from your stash or scrap)
  • 1¼ yd. (1.25m) solid colour for bag body
  • 2/3 yd. (70cm) for bag lining
  • 1½ yd. (1.5.m) fusible batting (based on 40 inches wide)

All patterns have been tested to ensure accuracy.
