Eco Dyeing – A New Love?
In June I attended an Eco Dyeing workshop offered by Nat Palaskas from NotJustNat. I went with a group of friends from my quilt guild. What a wonderful day we had. Check out Nat’s blog for all the photos and details of the day ->> Eco Dyeing workshop
Nat is a terrific teacher and she provided us with an excellent introduction into eco dyeing. The results were spectacular. I was inspired to give it a go on my own.
I rounded up a few of my friends and we went to my country retreat to spend a few days exploring the wonders of eco dyeing. We harvested off my 7 ½ acres of land. We ended up with a bounty of different eucalypts, acacia, grevillea, mushrooms, wild rose and many other things we didn’t recognise but tried anyway.
We had a first go on Sunday to see how it would work, then got down to business with a second go. We got much better results after we had ironed out a few glitches in the steaming setup and the bundling process.
Of course, while the steaming was happening, we weren’t idle. We had a go at gelatine printing and silk painting.
All in all it was a fabulous 4 days of sharing and creating. Now I am going to refine the process. I will have Glen get out the old camp stove. The fish poacher I haven’t used in 15 years is now re-purposed for steaming eco packets to give me more capacity.
