Sawtooth Mountains Quilt Pattern

$AUD 11.99

Row quilts are always challenging but great fun to make.

I bought some lovely fabric from the Juggling Summer range by Zen Chic which was covered in circles. Of course what does that scream at me when using them in a quilt? – sharp lines of course!

Description

I made the triangles in various sizes using paper piecing. The darker colours of the fabric silhouette the peaks against the cream background. In this sample, I used 2 different cream fabrics. One for the middle row and a different fabric for the outer rows. Of course, this can be reversed using a darker background and brighter peaks. This is shown in the alternate quilt which uses black background fabric contrasted with bright African prints.
The sharp points are offset by the alternating rows of squares made using strip piecing.

Row quilts are always challenging because if you don’t have all your rows measuring the same, you will have trouble putting it together. Accurate cutting and sewing is important with this quilt.

All those sharp points made me think of the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho – hence the name…
