Desert Dreaming Quilt Pattern

This pattern began, as it often does, by falling for a fabric range. I saw the Australian fabric Terra Australis by Ella Blue and it immediately spoke to me of triangles!

Once I got started, I thought of so many ways I could use this pattern, it got me very excited. Desert Dreaming is a contemporary quilt design allowing the modern Quilter to express themselves through colour….

Description

In the original quilt, I used the Terra Australis range with a light grey Essex Linen to provide a bit of texture. In the alternate quilt I went for a stark white solid to offset the florals. I can also see this pattern working by using one or two colours from your stash.

To make this pattern easy to cut, I recommend using an equilateral triangle ruler. This allows you to rotary cut the triangles. If you don’t have access to the triangle ruler, I have included templates for the triangles in the pattern.

This is a fun pattern to play around with. Pull out the stash and have a go!

TIP
Use fat quarters if you wish to use more than 8 different prints. My alternate colorway quilt uses 12 fat quarters

Skill Level: Intermediate, rotary cutting and basic sewing skills

Finished Size: 56 x 68 inches

  • ½ yard (50cm) each of 8 different prints
  • 2 yards (2m) solid or small print
  • ¾ yard (75cm) binding fabric
  • 4 yards (4m) backing fabric
  • Batting 62 X 74 inches
