My first visit to Quilt Encounter

My first visit to SA Quilters Guild Quilt Encounter was a great experience. I can see why ladies return each year to enjoy this quilting retreat.

My first visit to SA Quilters Guild Quilt Encounter was a great experience.

In July, I had the pleasure of teaching at the 2018 Quilt Encounter Retreat in Adelaide. What a wonderful event made even better by the ladies who attended this week-long retreat. It is impeccably run by a team of ladies who attend to every detail down to the evening jigsaw puzzle for those who need a break from sewing. The 2018 theme was “Flamingos” which unleashed a lot of pent up creativity!

Over the week, I taught three of my patterns – Angle Tote, Fish and Chips and Enchanted Forest. The ladies who attended were fun to be with and very creative in their colour choices and interpretation of my patterns. See some of the results below.

The “Angle Tote” bag class is always popular. My pattern used Kaffe Fassett fabric but anything works depending on the statement you wish to make. You can never have enough bags!

Fish are a lot of fun to use in a quilt project. My “Fish and Chips” pattern was devised to use fish in playful ways. Again, a lot of creativity from the ladies was evident.

For the first time, I taught my “Enchanted Forest” pattern. It went very well with lots of creativity from the ladies with fabric selection. The secret is to achieve good contrast between the trees and background. Here are some of the results.

It is easy to see why the ladies who attend this event, return each year. I am so excited to have been invited back for 2019. I am currently formulating ideas for the 2019 Quilt Encounter!
